Season & Habit
November 3rd is
Culture Day, and is one of the national holidays. The day was
meant to be the day for us to pay special attention to developing
Japanese culture.
This day was set up for us to promote pease, liberty and to
develop Japanese culture.
On this day, special honorary medals are awarded by the Emperor
of Japan to those who have made a great contribution to the
progress of art and science in Japan.
The day is also meant to encourage us to take part in developing
Japanese culture in many fields. On Culture Day, many different
kinds of cultural festivals or art festivals are held not only in
art galleries but also in many pablic hall throughout the country.
We have a festival called "shichi-go-san" which comes
on November 15 every year.
The literal meaning of "shichi-go-san" is seven, five
and three years old.
On this day, boys of 5 years old and girls of 3 years and 7 years
old visit the shrine in their best clothes (mainly in National
costume) with their parents in order to give thanks for their
health and growth.
We have another festival day in November. It is Labor-Thanksgiving
Day, and we celebrate it on November 23rd, which is one of our
national holidays.
This is the day when we pay our respects not only to hard labor
but also to hard labor but also to the accomplishments and
products made by working peaple.
We celebrate good harvests and thank the farmers and workers for
their year-round labor.
